Free Puppy and Kitten Exams at Jefferson Animal Hospitals

Did you just add a new furry addition to the family?  Your new baby may qualify for a free first time health examination with us.

Qualifying for the free examination

To qualify, you have to have owned your puppy or kitten for one week or less.  He or she will also need to be healthy for this visit. Litters do not qualify and the pet needs to be under 6 months of age.  As a community service, we do allow any pet adopted from any shelter to be given a complimentary examination within 7 days of the adoption, as they require.

What is the free examination for?

The physical examination is the most important part of your pet’s preventative health care.  During this examination the veterinarian will listen to the pet’s heart, look in the eyes and the ears and talk to you extensively about the behaviors of your new friend.  At the time of this examination we will discuss with you risk factors that will influence the specific vaccinations and preventative health care tests that we recommend.  We will also answer any questions you may have regarding your new addition.  During this visit you will be given a lot of information which can be overwhelming, so you will be given written material to take home with you that you can read at your leisure.

How much will this really cost me?

While our medical examination is free, there is a $12.00 medical record setup fee.  By law, we have to keep your pet’s medical records on file for three years.  If you return with your pet for a second set of vaccinations, that fee will be refunded to you on your next visit.  We may also recommend vaccinations and preventative care testing for your new pet.  The fees for these services will vary and are not included in the free health examination.

By appointment only

These free puppy and kitten examinations are done Monday through Friday by appointment only.  If you would like an appointment please call and we will be more than happy to schedule one for you.
